Incorporated
March 11, 1971 with a population of 2,284, the town has enjoyed
a steady growth to its current population of approximately 18,000
persons.
The town,
following tradition established when the Mint Hill community was
first settled in 1750, has tremendous community spirit and pride.
Within the town are many churches and excellent schools. Also,
there are recreational facilities including private and public
golf courses and country clubs. Primarily a residential community,
the business district has shown intensified development in recent
years with approximately 285 businesses and professional services
available.
Mint Hill
and Idlewild Volunteer Fire Departments provide our community
with fire protection and paramedic emergency ambulance service.
These departments are rated among the highest in the State. Mint
Hill welcomed our own Police Department under Police Chief Brian
Barnhardt on July 1, 2003. The Police Station is located at 7200
Matthews-Mint Hill Road.
A nonpartisan
mayor and board of commissioners, elected at-large biannually,
govern the Town. They hold regular meetings at the Town Hall on
the second and fourth Thursday of each month. Also, there is a
planning board, board of adjustment and park and recreation committee,
each meeting monthly. The public is encouraged to attend these
meetings.
The combination
of churches, schools, recreational facilities, open space and
community spirit make Mint Hill an ideal place to live and work.
